Not once but twice now....
Connor has needed me to save his life. Connor received the heimlich Maneuver for the second time in his life today. The first time he was nine months old and got plastic lodged in his throat. (where it came from I have no idea.) Then today he choked on a hunk of banana of all things. He was sitting on my lap after I got done exercising and we were sharing a banana. Well he takes a bigger bite than normal and of course he clamps his jaw shut so I can't get it out so I watched him close. Sure enough, his eyes got huge his nose started to run, he was trying to cry but couldn't due to no air. Quickly,I flipped him towards the ground and began back thrusts. It loosened after the first three blows but he still needed about 3 more to get it completely out before I could do the pinky sweep. Half came out and half went all the way down. After this little adventure, he wimpered a little and went right back to eating the banana. I write this lightly but it was a very scary thing. I've been grateful for my education today. I don't know how many times I've taken a child CPR and first Aid ( 3 times I know for sure) but I'm grateful for it. I never thought i would remember anything I learned in those classes but It's saved my child twice already! If you don't know how to give your toddler the Heimlich I can definatly teach you. Connor's made me a pro!

oh my word Ashley!! Thats so scary! You are very lucky to know what to do, I am afraid I would panic if I were in that situation! Your such a wonderful mom!! I sure need to learn what to do!
You were a PRO long before Connor came around, hahaha! I guess you are just a hero - saving everyone's lives all the time. What a good mom you are!
Ashley- I know how scary that is! I had to do it for Matthew as a toddler and then Steve two weeks later. So scary! But, I so get those feelings of extreme gratitude that you knew what to do. Good job!
